You will probably feel a variety of emotions when you lose someone you love. The ability to make it through the death of a loved one can be challenging.   You may have feelings of shock and disbelief, anger, guilt and depression.

When the service is over, friends and distant family return to their own way of life and the immediate family is often left to deal with their grief on their own.  Some family members are able to make the adjustment from “life as it was” to “life as it is” without assistance.  For others, this transition is more difficult.  It is not selfish to take care of yourself.  The period of adjustment is different for every person.  There is no timetable for grief, so don’t compare yourself to others who have lost loved ones.  Your life has changed and healing in your own way is important for the health of  your mind, body and spirit.  It’s normal for some days to be better than other.

Schoening’s is pleased to provide, for those who feel the need, after service counselling.
This counselling is provided by Val Theroux of Ringwood Health Consultations.  Val is a registered nurse and has a Masters Degree in counselling Psychology from the University of  Victoria.

"Though grief is a natural and necessary process, it's also an extraordinarily difficult one. We're here to help mourners and those who care for them."

- Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., Director
